Nation Service Dogs Mantracking

Mantracking is the ultimate challenge of instincts, endurance and perseverance, and was modeled after the show “Mantracker” in 2009. Since then, this has become a very successful and popular event for NSD.

The event is hosted every September just outside of Cambridge. Participants must be 18 years of age or older.

Next Mantracking: September 7, 2013

Participants compete in teams of two as prey or trackers. The Tracking Teams include people on horseback or with dogs who try to capture the Prey Teams before they reach all five checkpoints. The Prey Teams include people covering 10 km of rugged terrain that are trying to reach five checkpoints while avoiding capture by the Tracking Teams.

The goal is for the Prey Teams to finish without being captured by the Tracking Teams, within the shortest amount of time. The capture of one team member will result in the time from capture to finish being added to the total time. If that person is captured again then the time from that capture to finish is also added. If the second team member is captured at any stage, the team is eliminated. A Prey Team is still eligible to win as long as one member evades all the Tracking Teams.

There are various incentives for fundraising that assist in the successful completion of the event.

Prey Team Incentives:

  • Under $300: the team receives a topographical map with the area boundaries and a compass
  • $300: the team receives a map with the trails marked on it
  • $500: the team receives helpful hints from a trial run such as times between checkpoints, easier trails, good hiding spots, etc.
  • The team receives the GPS location of one checkpoint for every $100 raised after reaching the $500 goal
  • $1,000: the team has the opportunity to sponsor and name a NSD puppy-in-training
  • The team receives 10 minutes of their total time for every $500 raised after reaching the $1,000 goal
